In this project, we were given 6 weeks to produce a book, with a topic of our choice.
I chose sustainability in fashion, as it was something that I was personally interested in.
One of the sections of the book.
The core of this module was for us to learn and practise Visual Literacy.
For me, this meant that I had to research, analyse and give a breakdown of countless different brand's sustainability campaigns.
Starting a book from scratch was difficult. I wanted to create something that I was proud of, something that was cohesive and meaningful.
The research for content, search for imagery and analysis all took quite a long time.
The search for a suitable font to reflect our message and work is one of the most fun part of every designer's process.
Shantell Sans was chosen for headings and logo designs. It was created to "inspire others to have fun with writing and words".
In the same vein, I wanted people to know that sustainability can be fun, trendy, cool and light-hearted.
Poppins was chosen for the body texts. It's based on "pure geometry, particularly circles."
I wanted a font that could help subtly reflect the circular nature of fashion I was championing for throughout the book, and Poppins did that for me.

Green: I chose a less saturated green than usual to give it a faded look, highlighting the message of reusing and reparation.
Blue: A common colour associated with sustainability. I chose a saturated, darker blue to reflect seriousness.
Brown: Associated with earth as well as vintage products, in line with the campaign for a more sustainable future.
A simple 2 column layout was used for the majority of the book.
Fonts and colours were kept consistent throughout the book in order to give readers a cohesive and easy reading experience.
I ended the project with a 68-page book, made of ESG-approved paper and a threaded spine, in line with the theme.
It consists of a detailed analysis of Patagonia, Nike and H&M's sustainability campaigns and efforts.
It also consists of what sustainable fashion means to me, and how I would encourage sustainability in fashion in my own unique way.
A brand and movement for sustainable fashion.
My favourite page of all, breaking down my brand's colours.
A page comparing the changes in fashion from then and now.
Analysis of Nike's Move To Zero Campaign.
