In the summer of 2023, I wanted to find something to put my energy towards. And the trend then (even now) was thrifting.
The general idea was to invite elderly/older adults to model for these thrifted garments as opposed to the usual young adults modelling for them.
I collaborated with a friend, Sebastian and we got to work.
My aunty and uncle.
Cute.
It was difficult to offer something that people hadn't already offered in that saturated market.
Without digital marketing and design experience, managing social media accounts for sales was difficult for us.
We were unsure of what to post, when to post and where to post.
well-worn: aged, showing signs of extensive use
worn well: to remain functional after long periods of use
we felt these two phrases connected well with what thrifting is about.
and we loved the fact that it reads the same forwards and backwards, horizontally and vertically.
Logo.
we made sure to have consistent brand elements on our instagram page, using consistent fonts, colours, tonality and noise overlays (which we felt helped accentuate the "thriftness" of it all).
we also loved to have fun and made sure to add some of our own personality into our posts and messages.
One of our Instagram stories.
we wanted our instagram audience to know everything they need to know before they purchase a shirt, all in one glance.
after several tries, we finalised the layout.
we wanted to give each shirt personality, thus we named each and every shirt in relation to their designs.
Our layout.
the response to our launch video exceeded our expectations, especially since it was our first post on @wellworn.wornwell.
we had lots of support from friends (including laywen, jordan, klennan who helped so much with the photoshoot!) and family and managed to have, in our eyes, a successful first passion project.
although we thoroughly enjoyed the process, we realised that this was not the market that we wanted to be in, thus we paused it.
it was an amazing experience and definitely remains a core memory for me.
Everyone.
